Superior, CO - Flatirons FC is proud to announce that the club has accepted an invitation to the 2025 U.S. Open Cup, the country’s oldest ongoing soccer tournament. Coming off of the club’s most successful season in USL League Two play, U.S. Soccer extended an invitation to Flatirons, which the club accepted. Flatirons FC is one of 9 USL League Two sides invited to play in this season’s tournament.

“This isn't just any tournament—it's a chance for us to show what we're made of. It’s a testament to our fans, who drive us forward every chance we get” said Flatirons FC CEO and President Joe Webb.

“It's an honor to be part of this incredible journey, and we can’t wait to see Flatirons FC on the national stage”.

As a member of the Mountain Division in the Western Conference of the USL League Two last season, Flatirons posted an 8-3-1 record, finishing first in the division. In addition to the first place finish, the club earned the second-best points-per-game average (2.25) in all of the Western Conference, behind only 2022 USL League Two champions Ventura County Fusion (2.50). The team’s +22 goal differential was 3rd-best in the conference.

The club joins the U.S. Open Cup as a member of the “Open Division”. The “Open Division” also features amateur champions, and 14 open qualifiers from the regional qualification rounds of late December.

For Head Coach Levi Rossi, the Open Cup provides a chance for the club to compare itself to the professional sides in America. “For the team, it’s a really good opportunity to show themselves against some of the best players in the country. Our staff is super excited to get everyone back together and competing, and we can’t wait to see where this opportunity leads us!”

About the U.S. Open Cup

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States, founded in the 1913-1914 season. It is a national tournament open to both professional and amateur teams, giving clubs from all levels the chance to compete for a major title. The tournament includes teams from Major League Soccer (MLS), United Soccer Leagues (USL), and semi-professional/amateur leagues.

The U.S. Open Cup follows a single-elimination format, with teams advancing through multiple rounds until a champion is determined. The winner of the tournament earns a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League.
