ATLANTA – U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday the draw for the First Round of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as clubs across the USL Championship, League One and League Two learned their opponents for the opening round of the historic competition.
All 32 First Round matchups will be streamed live, as CBS Sports returns as the multi-media rights partner for the 2026 competition. Matches not airing on CBS Sports platforms will be carried live on U.S. Soccer's YouTube channel.
Highlighting the opening round are meetings between clubs from the USL Championship and League One and those from USL League Two, with reigning Championship title-holders Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC headed across town to face League Two’s Steel City FC as it pursues another deep run in the competition.
Reigning League Two title-holder Vermont Green FC is also set for a marquee clash with League One’s Portland Hearts of Pine set to head to Virtue Field. The first official meeting between two clubs that have caught the imagination of the American soccer community will air on CBS Sports Network on Tuesday, March 17.
Also featured on CBS Sports Network is League Two club FC Motown STA welcoming defending USL Cup champion Hartford Athletic to Newark, N.J. on Wednesday, March 18. Meanwhile on Paramount+ and CBS Sports Golazo Network the Championship’s Indy Eleven will host historic League Two power the Des Moines Menace (March 17) and perennial League One contender Union Omaha will visit amateur side BOHFS St. Louis (March 18).
In addition to Steel City FC and FC Motown STA, a handful of other League Two clubs will host Championship and League One opposition. Among them, Laredo Heat SC is set to make its return to the tournament for the first time this decade by welcoming El Paso Locomotive FC for a Texas showdown.
Elsewhere, Little Rock Rangers will host FC Tulsa aiming to spring an upset of a USL Championship club for a second consecutive year, while historic Open Cup underdogs Flint City Bucks will host Forward Madison FC, Asheville City SC will face Greenville Triumph SC, and Ventura County Fusion will welcome Spokane Velocity FC.
Some of the USL Championship’s regular season powers a season ago were more fortunate and received home draws, with one of the notable contests a rematch between Sacramento Republic FC and amateur side El Farolito, which Republic FC claimed 1-0 in last year’s Third Round at Heart Health Park.
Two-time USL Championship Players’ Shield winner Louisville City FC will host Southern Indiana FC, while the Charleston Battery will face Open Cup debutant Badgers FC at Patriots Point, but defending League One title-holder One Knoxville SC will head on the road to face Open Cup debutant SC Vistula Garfield.
